Buchu, also known as Agathosma betulina, is a Rutaceae plant that is green, and woody. The leaves have a strong, peppermint-like perfume that grows stronger as they dry. Buchu is used to treat urinary tract infections (UTIs), such as urethritis (inflammation of the urethra) and kidney infections (pyelonephritis). It’s also used to treat prostate inflammation (prostatitis), benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), high blood pressure, fever, cough, common cold, upset stomach, stomach ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gout, and sexually transmitted illnesses when taken orally (STDs).
